Ffp Hair Salon Is The Place To Head To For Beautiful Hair
Bangsar’s newest beauty address is here in the form of Ffp Hair Salon. This lovely place blends cool design, sharp craft and a cultural soul. Bangsar’s new beauty hotspot comes with serious personality. Ffp Hair Salon is situated in one of Kuala Lumpur’s most style-savvy neighbourhoods. Founded by veteran hairstylist Brandon Ng, the new 1,600 sq ft space brings together international expertise, elevated aesthetics and a heartfelt nod to old-school nostalgia.

Hair has never just been about appearances for Brandon. It has always been about identity, confidence and craft. His journey began in 2003 after graduating from The Hair Forum by Rever Hong Kong (Malaysia), before taking him across the region and beyond. From Taipei’s fashion-forward styling scene to Perth’s loyal clientele and Singapore’s polished beauty industry, each chapter sharpened both his technical skills and creative instinct.

He had a decade-long stint in Singapore. During that period, Brandon worked as a Colour Technician with Keune Haircosmetics, mastering advanced colouring techniques while gaining valuable insight into the business side of beauty. It was where artistry met strategy — and where the blueprint for Ffp quietly began. The great news is that he is now back in Malaysia, bringing his expertise here. He has opened the doors to Ffp Hair Salon in Bangsar, bringing global experience home.
A Salon With Soul
If you are wondering about the name, Ffp is inspired by the Cantonese term 飛髮舖, loosely referring to the traditional neighbourhood barbershop or haircut shop many grew up visiting.

For Brandon, it is deeply personal. “It’s how I remember it from childhood,” he shares. “Whenever my parents took me for a haircut, we would go to a 飛髮舖— whether it was a Chinese auntie’s salon or an Indian barber shop.” Born in the late ’80s and raised in the ’90s, Brandon grew up immersed in Cantonese culture, TVB dramas and the multicultural fabric of Malaysia. Ffp is his modern-day tribute to that memory — reimagined for today’s style-conscious generation.
The Decor
Inspired by Japanese interiors with raw industrial touches, Ffp balances minimalism with warmth. Think clean lines, soft textures, spacious layouts and an understated lifestyle feel. Here, it is not a rushed in-and-out salon experience. It is designed as a place where clients can exhale, recharge and leave looking significantly better than when they arrived.

Beyond serving clients, Ffp was also created as a platform for hairstylists to grow their own identity. Brandon believes stylists should develop signature strengths rather than chase every passing trend. That philosophy gives the salon a refreshing sense of individuality—where technique matters, creativity thrives and personal expression leads.

The Treatments
Brandon shared that great hair starts with the basics. Healthy routines come first, followed by personalised colour work, texture or perms that feel authentic to the person wearing them. Products used are from Milbon, Japan’s number 1 professional haircare brand.

Brandon hopes to expand Ffp into multiple locations, creating welcoming spaces where talented stylists can build their craft and clients can always feel at home. For now, Bangsar gets first dibs — and honestly, it’s already looking better because of it.

My Personal Experience
When I stepped inside the salon, I felt a sense of calm enveloping me. I’m someone who gets anxious whenever it is something to do with my hair. Brandon greeted me warmly and I felt at ease instantly. He has a presence that made me feel comfortable and assured that my hair and head would be in good hands.
I had been having trouble with the way my hair looked for many months. As such, it was always up in a small bun at the nape of my neck. Every time I coloured my hair, I suffered discomfort and it was never quite the right shade to cover all the greys. Also, it would be hardly a week before the white hairs started appearing again. I am already suffering from thinning hair and never getting the colour right, just made things worse. It looked like I had bald spots.
I shared my concerns with Brandon and he gave me some very good advice on how to handle my hair. He also suggested how I should do the colouring. I took a deep relaxed breath and put my head in his expert hands. It was a wonderfully pleasant experience and whenever I needed something explained, he obligingly took the time to clarify everything to me. I could clearly see that he has vast knowledge in his field and what he did was always for the good of his clients.

Needless to say, after a fantastic experience, I looked in the mirror and my hair looked great. The colour was just right for me and I was very happy with the results. What I really loved was also the fact that after I went home and washed my hair a few times, instead of the colour looking washed out, it actually looked just as or even nicer with a slightly different sheen. The colour lasted for more than three weeks and I received many compliments for my hair. It also made it look as though I had more hair (as I mentioned before, I have a problem with thinning hair on parts of my scalp). I learnt a lot about hair care during my visit and I am grateful for the advice Brandon gave to me.
The conclusion? Ffp is certainly the place to go to if you have hair concerns and want to have your crowning glory looking at its best. The salon also has a more private area where women (usually Muslim ladies) can choose to have their hair treatments. Would I recommend this place to my friends? The answer is a resounding YES!
Gems of Knowledge – Q & A with Brandon

* What are 3 common mistakes people make when it comes to their hair/hairstyle?
- Hmm… most “bad hair decisions” usually come down to 3 main things: face shape, hair texture, and hair integrity. At the very least, your haircut should complement your face shape. Then comes the real question — is your hair healthy enough to handle those creative colours? Trends are fun, I get it. But not every trend is made for everyone.
- The key is to work with what you have:
- ✔️ Your face shape
- ✔️ Your natural hair texture
- ✔️ Your hair condition
- And be honest with yourself, are you ready for the maintenance that comes with it? Every hairstyle needs care. Before jumping into any big change, get a proper consultation with your hairstylist first. It makes all the difference.
* What the the important considerations a person should take into account before colouring their hair?
- First, ask yourself: why do you want to colour your hair? Is it to cover grey hair, or are you just following trends so you don’t feel left out? The truth is, maintaining coloured hair isn’t that difficult. It simply comes down to whether you’re willing to put in that little extra effort. Just a few extra minutes of proper hair care can keep your colour looking fresh and your hair in good condition.
* What are some common reasons for hair fall/loss and what advice would you give?
- Most of the time when people face hair loss, they think it’s just a shampoo or product issue… but actually it’s more than that. From what I see, stress and how we take care of our scalp plays a big part. Try to keep your hair and scalp clean before going to bed. During rest time, our scalp is recovering, so if your follicles are blocked with sweat, oil or product buildup, it’s not helping your hair growth. And please don’t sleep with wet or damp hair. It can cause scalp issues, even slight fungus, and that’s where the smell starts. Also, don’t ignore your stress level. This one really affects hair fall more than you think. Take some time to take care of yourself too — simple things like a good hair spa can already make a difference. Hair care is not just about what you use, it’s about how you take care of your scalp daily.
* As someone with so many years of experience, what advice would you give to clients who want to take care of their hair and their overall look?
- Get a hairstyle that suits your daily lifestyle and routine. Whether it’s for work, gym, sports or daily outings, make sure it’s something easy for you to manage and prep without giving yourself extra trouble every morning. If you’re unsure, always check with your stylist first. Don’t just follow trends or try too hard to stand out — sometimes the right hairstyle is the one that naturally fits you best.
* What improvements do you hope to see in the hairstyling/hairdressing industry in the upcoming years?
- Hope more of the younger generation will take part and see hairdressing as part of the fashion scene. Don’t be afraid to be different. Especially in a country like Malaysia, where we are rich with different races and cultures, it gives us the chance to create all sorts of unique styles and creativity. Stay humble, never stop learning, keep sharing, and continue creating amazing hair trends and styles. Let’s put Malaysia higher up on the international fashion and hair industry map.
* What is a good way to find a hairstylist/hair salon that will understand your needs?
- Hmmm, I think first, you can check out their work through social media or any other platform … see whether their craft fits your needs. And of course, have a proper chat with the stylist too. Just find someone that makes you feel comfortable, confident, and understands what you actually want.
* What happens to the scalp and hair as people grow older? How can people make sure they still have gorgeous hair as they grow older?
- I think this really depends on the individual’s hair, scalp condition, and also genetics. As we grow older, our scalp starts aging too — dry scalp, poor blood circulation due to lifestyle or lack of nutrients, and also lack of moisture can all affect our hair condition. That’s why it’s important to start taking care of the scalp early, not only the hair itself. Simple things like proper scalp care, scalp treatments or spa sessions can help maintain a healthier scalp environment and support better hair growth in the future.
* What do you feel are the top trends in the hair industry now?
- I always take trends as a guide. What you see in magazines or model shoots, yes everyone looks amazing, but we still need to blend it into our own daily life. Sometimes it just needs a few tweaks to make the hairstyle work better for your routine and lifestyle. So don’t be afraid to try new things, just make sure you consult your stylist properly first.
* Do you feel that the food we eat also affects our hair and scalp?
- Yea, our daily food consumption actually plays a huge role in our hair growth and overall hair health! I still remember back then always seeing shampoo ads talking about Omega 3, and honestly yes, it does help with scalp hydration and giving the hair that healthier shine. Of course, other vitamins and nutrients are important too for stronger and healthier hair growth. And one thing I always tell people … try not to overload on overly oily food as well, cause it doesn’t just affect body health, it may also contribute to scalp issues and hair loss over time.
It is clear that we are lucky to have Brandon back on our shores. We need his talents in our hairdressing industry and it is wonderful that we just need to head to Bangsar to get a chance to put our hair and scalp in his good hands.
