Tips to Maintain Mental Health & Wellbeing

Mental health affects more than 450 million people and 1 in 3 Malaysians have mental health problems.

Mental health and wellbeing are just as important aspects as one’s physical health. Positive mental health and wellbeing enables one to function well, have meaningful social connections, positive self-esteem and be able to better cope with life’s ups and downs.

Hence, here are a few tips that can help maintain your mental health and wellbeing:

  1. Journal, talk about or express your feelings
Keep note of your emotions in the journal and your list of items to be grateful for.

2. Reduce alcohol intake

Make decisions with a clear mind and not under the influence of alcohol


3. Avoid drug use

Stay away from drugs as it causes impaired judgement and prolonged consumption of drugs causes mental damage

4. Stay active and make healthier food choices

Stay active and fit as it works wonders for your mental and physical health. Exercise releases happy hormones,


5. Develop new skills and hobbies

Pick up new hobbies like photography that may add value to your skillset and resume

6. Be realistic with goals

Set SMART goals and put in the right amount of work to achieve your goals.

7. Be kind and less critical to yourself

Be kind and courteous to yourself because the only person we have to live with in this world is ourselves.


8. Get enough sleep

To get minimum 8 hours of sleep. Use a tracker to track your hours of deep sleep.

9. Take time off for holidays

Holidays can help to break monotony and give you a new perspective and insight on the different lives, cultures and habits of different groups of people.
