Chelsia Ng’s Book One: Songs for You & I is in a unique class of its own

Actress, singer, and songwriter Chelsia Ng announced the much-anticipated release of her debut solo full-length album, Book One: Songs for You & I at a lovely event attended by supporters, friends and family at Bookmark @ APW Bangsar. Some well-known personalities from the entertainment industry were also spotted. It was a cosy launch with lots of warmth, love and laughter. We could see that she’s so well-loved by all who know her.

As always, Chelsia looked fabulous and her smile when welcoming guests lit up the venue. Written in three of Malaysia’s languages — Bahasa Malaysia, English, and Penang Hokkien — the album reflects Chelsia’s identity and heritage, inviting listeners to explore themes of resilience, hope, and human connection through music. This album was made possible with the support of the Ministry of Communications and MyCreative Ventures.

We were treated to a few songs during the event and I must say I was impressed. I know her more as an actress and was delighted to see that she has an enchanting voice and can sing so well too. During the launch, Chelsia also shared a bit about her family (father, mother and brother) and how they have showered her with love and support throughout the years. It made for heartwarming moments during the event.

It was shared that this is an album celebrating Malaysia’s linguistic diversity and universal human experiences. Malaysia offers a unique, vibrant, and dynamic artistic landscape — and Chelsia is proud to have crafted an album reflecting this rich ethnic, cultural and linguistic diversity in three Malaysian languages.

Chelsia shared that Book One: Songs for You & I is more than a collection of songs; each track represents a chapter in Chelsia’s life and a step along her journey as an artist and storyteller. Influenced by folk/pop and a touch of country, the album explores universal themes, including love, loss, and the courage to keep going. With multilingual lyrics, Chelsia unites storytelling and the audience through the universal language of music.

“This album is a celebration of my identity as a Malaysian. Each language I used — Bahasa Malaysia, English and Penang Hokkien — carries different stories, experiences, and emotions, and I hope the album brings listeners peace and joy. Each chapter—each song—represents not only my journey but, hopefully, a part of yours, too,” says Chelsia.

The album was produced by Irena Taib from the indie band The Impatient Sisters. An award-winning music director, composer, and multi-instrumentalist, Irena’s expertise and versatility with multiple instruments brought Chelsia’s vision to life. Co-producing the album is Raja Farouk, another award-winning musician and producer, celebrated for his genre-blending artistry. Irena and Farouk’s dynamic touch in arrangement and production enriches the album, delivering an immersive experience that enhances Chelsia’s distinctive storytelling and musical style.

The songs are catchy, melodious and fun and you’ll find yourself uplifted and moving to the music and mouthing the lyrics when hearing them. The original tracks are referred to as ‘chapters’ and an epilogue, each song exploring themes of love, connection, and self-discovery. Chelsia’s unique voice and playful charm bring these stories to life, making each chapter feel like a conversation between kindred spirits.

Mid-November marked the launch of the album’s first single, Jangan, Sayang, available
on YouTube and Spotify! The complete album is available in a truly unique format: an encrypted thumb drive, published by Publish King. It is available for purchase at https://www.chelsiang.com.

For an immersive experience, the album is beautifully packaged with a booklet featuring Chelsia’s personal notes, full lyrics, and stunning original artwork including cover art by her mother, Rose Oon (@roseandink). Born and raised in Penang, Chelsia Ng first gained recognition as one half of Malaysia’s pioneering English-singing duo, Indecisive, with comedian Douglas Lim. Their song Empty Decorations became the theme song for the popular sitcom Kopitiam. After studying acting at the Australian Academy of Dramatic Art and TVI Actors Studio, Chelsia established herself as a successful actress in Malaysia’s film and TV industry. In 2013, she returned to music with her debut EP, Here With You, showcasing her talents as a songwriter and composer. Book One: Songs for You & I marks her first full-length solo album, written in three languages to reflect her Malaysian roots and love for storytelling through music.
