INNER WHEEL CLUB OF KUALA LUMPUR SETS MALAYSIA BOOK OF RECORDS FOR LARGEST WALKATHON AGAINST VIOLENCE TOWARDS WOMEN
It’s a great achievement, indeed! The Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur (IWCKL) has made history by being officially recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) for organising the “Largest Walkathon Against Violence Towards Women”, with 1460 participants joining the event.

The achievement was celebrated during the Orange The World Walkathon 2025, part of the United Nations 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign. The walkathon brought together families, students, youth, NGOs, corporate supporters, and members of Inner Wheel Clubs from Districts 330 & 331, all united to raise awareness and take a stand against gender-based violence. The MBR certificate was presented to IWCKL and witnessed by YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development.

Pang Yoke Ling, President of IWCKL, expressed her gratitude by sharing, “This milestone belongs to every Malaysian who chose to walk with us. Violence against women and girls is not a private issue — it is a societal issue. Today’s record reflects our collective stand for dignity, respect, and equality.”

Juanita Lee, Organising Chairperson, added, “This walkathon is a testimony of unity. Malaysians from all walks of life came together to say ‘enough.’ We hope this achievement inspires continued national efforts to end violence in all forms.”
YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri congratulated IWCKL : “Violence against women must end. The Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur has shown leadership and commitment through this walkathon, uniting Malaysians to reject violence and promote equality. I congratulate IWCKL for this historic achievement.”
It has been reported that violence against women remains a pervasive global emergency. In 2025, data reveals that nearly 1 in 3 women — roughly 840 million—have survived physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. The crisis is lethal; an average of 140 women and girls are killed every day by partners or family members. Beyond physical harm, digital violence is also said to be surging.

Orange The World is a global United Nations campaign calling on communities to take action to end violence against women and girls through awareness, advocacy, education, and prevention. The colour orange symbolises hope for a future free from violence. The Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur, one of Malaysia’s longest-established women-led service organisations, empowers women, supports communities, and raises national awareness on gender-based violence.

The walkathon was a wonderful event and everyone involved should be praised for all they have done. Violence against women and girls is unacceptable and we must all work towards stopping it. Every single step taken against it is a step forward towards a better future for women and girls all over the world.
