They do have a bit of smell to it as well.<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Folic acid is a type of vitamin B. It is usually supplemented to ladies by hospitals and clinics before conceiving and during pregnancy. There are also foods fortified with folic acid such as bread, grains, pasta and rice. Some kids have mild symptoms and some severe. Many different factors have been identified that makes a child more prone to have ASD and that includes factors like environmental, biological and genetic.  <br>Various drugs such as valproic acid, thalidomide, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and acetaminophen (paracetamol) used during pregnancy have been associated with the development of ASD. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other purported causes of ASD includes heavy mental, microplastic and additives, alcohol consumption, vitamin D deficiency and many more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What do studies say? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/wise-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-17.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8614\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wise-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-17.png 960w, https:\/\/wise-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-17-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/wise-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-17-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/wise-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-17-600x338.png 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong><em>Neural tube defects caused by poor folic acid intake &#8211; 1:Encephaloceles  2: Spina Bifida 3: Anencephaly<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Multiple studies link prenatal folic acid supplementation to lowered odds of autism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, research have found that mothers who recently gave birth and have 4x more than normal levels of folic acid, the risk of having an autistic child doubles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Excess folic acid supplementation had similar effects as folic acid deficiency in a study done on mice. The experimental mice in this study ingested 10 times more much folic acid than controls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To summarize, these studies does not mean folic acid should be avoided \u2014 just that it should be taken in recommended quantities.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reference: <\/strong><br>1.
