\"\"\"\"\"\"DUBAI is a desert transformed into an architectural wonder! This city is in the United Arab Emirates, a country in the Persian Gulf.
It boasts soaring, unique-shaped buildings. It has very little rain but has lush flora, like at its colorful magical garden.
Spice and gold souks, desert safari with dune bashing that gives one an adrenaline rush, restaurants to cater to different tastebuds and so many other interesting sights offer tourists looking for adventure plus unusual sights the
perfect experience.
During my short holiday in Dubai that shares borders with Abu Dhabi in the south, Sharjah in the northeast, and the Sultanate of Oman in the southeast, I was captivated. In fact, the word smitten comes to mind.
I was part of a group of seasoned travellers (seniors) and most of us were a little anxious about having to walk too much but we were happy to find facilities and services in place to cater to all ages at the tourist sites.
There are towering buildings everywhere, including a little Manhattan in the middle of Dubai.
One sight that left me awestruck was the Palm Jumeirah.
Built from reclaimed land in a series of artificial archipelagos, Palm Jumeirah is shaped like a palm tree when viewed from above. The unique island is home to some of Dubai’s top luxury resorts, including the Atlantis.
Another wonder in a country that records only one week of rain in a year
is the thriving flora. This healthy state is said to be thanks to the irrigation system in place.
The Burj Khalifa is also a must-visit attraction. Imagine, visitors are transported to its topmost floor, the 124th, in a mere one minute.
Its lifts have the distinction of being the fastest in the world.
For shoppers, the Dubai Mall is the place to head to. One of the best malls in Dubai, it has some of the best brands available.
The entrance to the Burj Khalifa is near the mall.
The Dubai Aquarium is also located at the heart of the mall and is huge. Visitors can walk through the glass tunnel and behold the amazing sea life around them.
A temple, which is said to be UAE\u2019s first community-driven temple, is located in Jebel Ali’s ‘Worship Village’ in Dubai.
Built at a cost of 60million Dirham, it has an Arabian look.
One of the prime features of this fascinating place of worship is that it is open to all faiths and can accommodate nearly one thousand devotees at a time.
The third largest mosque in the world is in Abu Dhabi and I had the opportunity to see and marvel at this too. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is a work of art and outstanding Islamic architecture.
Other places of interest included the Global Village, Dubai Dolphinarium where the intelligent aquatic mammals showed off amazing acrobatic moves, river cruise, lunch at Indian actor and superstar Rajinikanth-themed restaurant and a museum of the future that combines elements of exhibition, immersive theatre and themed attraction, making one look beyond the present to the possible.
Dubai, which in Hindi translates to two brothers (Do Bhai),is an amazing city in many ways.
